Charge sales tax with Stripe Tax
Add sales tax at checkout, calculated by Stripe Tax on your own Stripe account.
How it works
When sales tax is on, Stripe Tax works out the tax on each order at checkout, using your Stripe account’s tax settings. Your prices are shown without tax, and tax is added once the shopper enters an address.
You decide where you collect tax. Your tax registrations and business details live in your Stripe Dashboard, and Stripe only charges tax where you’ve said you’re registered.
Stripe Tax is a Stripe product and Stripe charges for its tax calculations. Check Stripe’s pricing before you turn it on.
Turn it on
- 1Connect Stripe first (Settings → Payments). The Sales tax switch appears once your account is taking payments.
- 2Set up Stripe Tax in your Stripe Dashboard, including where you’re registered to collect tax.
- 3In Settings → Payments, turn on Sales tax. If Stripe still needs something, Cartmojo tells you what’s missing.
Good to know
Discounts are applied before tax, so tax is worked out on the discounted amount.
Gift cards aren’t taxed when they’re bought.
When you refund an order, Cartmojo also reverses the recorded tax on your Stripe account.
Sales tax is optional in Store setup, so you can skip it and turn it on later.
